Hi:
I found a 2003 TDI(with 12,000 miles)that Im considering buying.
But... the dealer has the car in the shop, and told me the original owner put gas in the tank. First he said it was getting a new factory engine, now he says they are replacing pistons, etc.. Would gasoline cause this type of damage? And if they sold it with a certified warranty starting at 0 miles, should I still consider it?
or run?
I found a similiar one with 17000 miles that I can probably
get for about $1000.00 more than the damaged one. What to do.

Sportwagen for her and lil' red wagon for me
Agreed. Unless they do put in a whole new engine, I would go for the other that hasn't been visited by the idiot spirit.

__. I know that this doesn't answer your question or add anything, really, to the decision making process, but this whole thing smells really funny to me. I can see great engine damage done by misfueling, but on the other hand, I'd expect a lot of other damage happening before pistons burnt or broke, etc. My take on this is that you're being given either 1) intentionally misleading, or, 2) ignorant information as to the condition of the car. I'd be very careful.
