I just had my driver's side outer CV boot replaced and it is different than the original. It is of a softer compound and shorter than the original. THe mech. said he had to order it from VW. Anyone else changed a late model CV boot and run across this? Jeff

Volkswagen has usually stuck to one supplier for that over the years...Lobro...but a couple years ago Lobro was bought out by GKN. This could account for the difference in design. I wouldn't sweat it, it should probably work just fine. I myself have never had to change any of my outers, but my '91 just got its third right inner boot at 332k miles. /images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Older FWD Volkswagens used to need outer boots and often joints quite a bit. Seems they have been improved.

I think there's a better guard setup on the A3's. There's a piece of plastic guarding the outer boot. I've put a few boot's on my old A2's over the years, none so far on the '99.
