ABS Codes - 2015 Passat - New Sensor

Hi there, I have an issue with my abs sensor.

2015 Passat TDI SEL Manual

Car was running good with no lights on or codes. but needed brakes. While I was doing brakes the rear bolts needed some heat since they were seized.

While i was heating up the bolts the rear left connector /abs sensor got damaged (fried)

I ordered this speed sensor from auto parts way and fixed the connector as well :

After everything was installed I cleared all codes but these keep coming up as soon as I pick up some speed.


Is there something I need to adapt or is there a special sensor for my Passat? I can’t see the new sensor being bad as well.

Lppoks like you installed not compatable sensor.

Where did you buy the sensor?

Shopdap and Idparts are good sources of OEM or OEM compatible units.

It’s a ATE speed sensor from autopartsway from the link above.

I don’t understand how they can be no compatible... dealer wants over 100 bucks for the sensor

Picked up a vw dealer sensor. It’s an ATE as well. Wiring is good too. Time to change the wheel bearing

I went to get a wheel bearing but before I went to put it on I went ahead and got a oem vw sensor.

Also I noticed it is the exact same ATE sensor as I ordered from autoparrts way. Except auto parts way scratches off the vw logo

I replaced the sensor and also spun the wheel by hand while looking at the advanced measuring blocks in abs module to see the speed.

I am getting speed from th g46 sensor when I spin it by hand.

I then cleared the codes and went for a drive.

STILL getting the same codes popping up. I don’t know what to do now. Clearly the pick up ring on the wheel bearing is ok too since it’s picking up speed. Double checked wiring too.

Any suggestions. ?

Update: fixed

Turned out to a bad wheel bearing pick up ring. It was missing a piece. I guess when I was heating up the seized bolts for brake carrier.
The speed was jumping up and down when driving and logging the sensor with vcds.

I'm kinda curious why you needed to heat up the carrier bolt.

24 hr soak with penetrating oil and a 24" breaker bar wasn't enough?

Were you able to return the VW dealer sensor?

the carrier bolts are in the worst place possible in the rear. plus doing on the garage floor. penetrating fluid doesnt work if their are seized with corrosion and salt. give it a try one day haha

and yes i was able to return the sensor.

I was this close in having to replace rear rotors on our MK5 before it got back, I got out of it by just changing pads.

I'm thinking I will be doing it on our '15 passat soon as there is pretty good uneven pad deposits on them right now.

If you have uneven wear on your pads, pay close attention to the rubber caliper piston boot. If it's not very pliable and fully/evenly compressing when the piston is pushed in it will cock the inner pad.

for anyone taking taking off the carriers, get yourself the proper short stubby tripple square bit and a "bent" ratchet that looks like this:

then put a extension on it (your cars oem breaker bar for lug nuts) and try and crack the bolts with one shot.

thats the ONLY way that works ...and ive tried it from every angle before
