washer fluid pump...again

My original pump failed about 6 months ago, after several months of slow operation. I dug into the wheel well and replaced it with a new Febi replacement and it was back running like a champ. But then a few weeks ago it just stopped dead again.

I'm wondering if it could be something other that an awful part, like maybe a fuse that I should check or something before I go through this exercise again with another new part? It stopped working very fast with no signs of fatigue.

Thanks for that list. I'll save it for the future. It sounds like the fuse can't be the culprit since the wiper motor itself is still working. Guess I need another pump. Maybe I should get it from the stealership this time. I though Febi made good parts.

You could pull the plug off the motor and check if it gets power when the lever is pulled and the ground is good.

Did you flush the bottle out? Seems odd the replacement failed so soon.
Do you hear it running?

Maybe the nozzles or hoses are clogged or pinched?

If you were up north here I could speculate that the nozzles were frozen. I see Austin as your location which I assume is TX? Have you had some cold weather and just have water or unwinterized washer fluid in the bottle?

We've dipped into the 30's a couple nights, but nothing severe. I suspect it was just a bad part. I just received a VAG part today and will swap it in this weekend.

Nope I didn't flush it. It looked clean to me, but I'll give that a try when I swap it again. I can't hear a peep from it when activated, and the tank is full.

Yup it was the pump. I flushed it as well as I could but you apparently have to remove the whole front end to actually remove it so that wasn't going to happen. Fingers crossed this one lasts longer.

Glad you got it working & posted the cure.
I hope you didn't buy another 'Febi' pump.

my pump went out and I had in the spare parts bin over the years a general replacement washer pump, i was able to cut the plastic mounting off and insert it right in the stock tank. Funny I had the original receipt from autozone in the box and paid 17 dollars 7 years ago. Theother hacks other than cutting off the standard mounting plastic, I has some general purpose hosing that fit out the out fitting and also fit into the VW stock fitting. Then I used silicone to lock the pump in.

Has worked for a week, with me over testing. the autozone part number is 9-300 , and some other numbers off the box which one could be upc. T300-02f

Bad part maybe, but you're smart to suspect a contributing cause. Maybe blow some water or air thru the lines, replace any that have collapsed, kinked or failed. Check the reservoir for cracks or clogs. Easy enough anyway. Not a common failure.
