16824 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Malfunction

Hi there,

Here's my first VAG-COM question...

I'm ordering my Bentley CD, but I won;'t have it for a little while...

I was wondering if someone could help me decrypting this code. It's not off of a TDI, but I'm sure that someone can help me. It's a 99 A4 GTI, with a 2.0.

Loose gas cap Just a guess.

Considering there is no such thing as an EVAP system on the TDI...

But for the 2.0, the gas cap is a good place to start. After that it gets a bit more complicated.

Yep, I found that gas cap thing, however the CEL has been on for about a month now. I'll clear it tonight and see if it comes back.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have the same DTC and wanted to see if anyone had any more information. And actually, in this case it is for TDI.

P0440 - "Evaporative Emissions Control System Malfunction"

I don't have a VAG-COM handy these days, but borrowed a coworker's generic ODBII scanner which is where I got the P-code.

Any ideas? I did check my fuel cap already and it was secure.

Umm... please disregard this thread.

Apparently, I didn't have the cable in tight enough, and what I was seeing wasn't the DTC for my car, but rather the last code that it read from someone else's car!!

My code turns out to be P0673, which makes more sense since that seems to be a glowplug issue.
