While driving the other night my check engine light came on and my glow plug light started flashing. The car is running fine. Any info on what the problem could be would be appreciated. Had my glow plug relay harness and glow plugs changed last year.

Just had that done and had to take it back to dealer because of the lights coming on.

Now, they are diagnosing a bad fuel injection pump, possible bad water pump and also telling me I need my timing belt replaced. I told them thanks but no thanks, I would put up with the flashing idiot lights. (My mechanic can do this stuff alot cheaper then they will.) Then they put me on hold, came back on the phone and tell me I have to get the fuel injection pump replaced because they can't get the car started.

I freaked! The car was running fine when I took it in.

Does your mechanic know TDIs very well? If so, tell the shop to stop working on your car and tow it to your mechanic.

If the mechanic doesn't know TDIs very well, find someone local that does and get it towed there.

Most important: Get it out of the dealers shop before the bill hits triple digits.

Thanks for the advice.

When the light first came on my mechanic tried to analyze the codes. He got a 1560 code, but couldn't do any work on it.

The dealer wouldn't tell me what codes they got.

I guess I will have it towed to a reliable mechanic. Just got the name of a couple off of this forum. I mechanic is great, but pretty basic. I just want it out of the dealer's possession.

Holding my car ransom is not acceptable!!!

P1560 shows as engine overspeed.

Keep your mechanic for the basic stuff on the car, but let a TDI specialist work on the engine.

At the dealer you could tell them that you are going to take your car to someone that actually knows what they are doing, but then you will never get any information from them. If it were me, I would tell them that, but I do my own work, so I'm a bit different boat.

Does a p1560 code mean 'max engine speed exceeded' ??

EDIT

never heard of a p1560
If you plug it into the search feature here, you will find three posts. This one and two others that list all of the fault codes possible.

That means that it may or may not be engine overspeed.

I would be very pissed if I was charged a diagnostic fee, but the dealer wouldn't tell me the results of that test.

__. Man, I hope that there's a special place in Hell (right next to the fireplace) for people who work in dealersh!ts and pull this kind of stuff.
