Can a bad lift pump cause low power?

I know I've "heard that it can cause low power" but I've never seen a thread that concluded with, "A new lift pump fixed my low power problem"

Anyone?

I think it can, such as limiting maximum speed and acceleration. Has it ever been replaced? or its flow rate checked?

Its definitely limp modish...car has been started a couple times that it wasn't in limp mode, what a BEAST! but then its quickly reverted to a slug

the lift pump has never been replaced...I've got a brand new one sitting in the gargage too, just don't want to throw more parts at problems that aren't "THE" problem

Is it on a PD car? (i.e. a car that requires a pump?)

Yes, but plenty of PD cars work fine with out the "required lift pump"

with that having been said, I can't ignore it, I'll likely replace it tomorrow

But can you at least hear the pump prime. Did you checked if it pours some 50mL fuel per priming. Those are fairly easy diagnostics, specially after the amount of work you have done to your car

Btw, can you pop the valve cover without disconnecting EGR cooler and intake?

I would like to take a peak at the camshaft, specially after a strange even that it was solved with a new MAF, but now I'm paranoid

the lift pump is dead, no doubt about it, it was working recently, but not anymore

you don't need to take the egr cooler off. you do need to take the electronic valve off of the intake though.

just 3 5mm screws

when you look at that cam, you are looking for a 45 degree angle on the cam, instead of a sharp 90. below is a bad cam

the chamfer is completely gone north of the orange marks

Thanks for the info. That is doable, I just don't want to spend half a day opening up to just close after a 5-10min observation. I still resent cleaning my intake last year.

Is your car low in power or in real limp? I am no expert but I think cars have to throw codes or even a CEL when going to limp

A PD low in power with a dead lift pump sounds like basic arithmetic

its definitely a computer caused limp mode, the car has shown a few seconds of some awesome power

I'm surprised by the no CEL too...I've only seen the limp without cel with a bad MAF

dead lift pump was not the cause of limp mode. I had a spare "smart" actuator, installed it, now the car is golden

As an after thought, as a Malone Tune Dealer I probably could have/should have, just tuned out the "smart" function

I've read hear that a bad lift pump can sometimes only show up with a new tune.
