Temp Sensor Location? - 1998 Beetle

Hello,
I have a 1998 Beetle with the hard start malaise.
I tried disconnecting the the engine coolant temp sensor (ECT) in the upper radiator hose to fool the computer but there was no effect.
Did I disconnect the correct sensor?
Is this the only ECT?
I saw mention of another sensor at the back of the head by the coolant glow plugs.

it should be around the driver's side of the engine in the lower side of the upper radiator hose

The one by the coolant glow plugs is the one you want.
