I have five TDI's (two 05 Jetta's, one 05 Passat and a 2012 VW Crafter). I routinely change the timing belt, water pump, tension adjusters and bolts between 80,000-90,000 miles. My local VW dealer recommends Gates timing belts. I have a VW Crafter van at my home in Mexico with a 2.0 TDI (CKUB engine) and the Mexican's recommend changing the timing belt at 70,000 KM.

My question is: What is the maximum mileage (not KM) I should run a timing belt (and which brand) before changing it? My CERTIFIED TDI technician at Jackson Imports in Jackson, MS says that the Gates belts are safely good for 100,000 MILES. That is what I've been banking on.

In Mexico, all I know that's available is the 70,000 km belt kit available from the VW dealer. 43,400 miles???!!! I have ordered a Gates belt with a Hepu water pump included in their kit. I'm hoping to use the CKUB engine for another 100,000 miles before I need to change it again.

I would be very grateful if someone could enlighten me on which belt kit I should buy to safely achieve the 100,000 miles that my TDI's up here in the states get. Otherwise, which belt would be good for 100,000 miles? Thanks to you all!

Id be scared to run any TB kits to 100 000 miles no matter what it says it can handle, change it at 70K for example to be safe
