FS: 2003 VW Golf TDI GLS + Goodies - Gurnee, IL
We are looking for a TDI enthusiast to purchase our brother’s car.
Our brother died unexpectedly after surgery in April this year. He owned this black 2003 Golf TDI GLS, since new, and it was his daily commuting vehicle. It was originally an automatic, but he did the 5-speed manual transmission conversion himself. He worked as a diesel engine test cell technician for Navistar, and was a skilled machinist building and modifying small block racing engines for himself and others.
The current odometer reading is 251,983, but we believe he replaced the engine most recently at 247,200, in December, 2017, based on notes we found.
This car runs well and pulls hard, but has some cosmetic and convenience issues (detailed below). It has the front mounted intercooler (TDIUpgrades), a plug-in engine block heater, newer Euro Golf headlights, and newer Goodyear Assurance tires mounted on the original alloy wheels. At one time he experimented with chipping this car, but we know it has been restored to factory standard (un-chipped).
The Good:
Solid engine, no leaks, pulls hard
Newer Goodyear Assurance tires
TDIUpgrades Intercooler
Plug-In Engine Block Heater
Euro style headlights (newer)
Interior is in good shape, with only minor signs of age and wear
Heated Seats — work great
AC / Heat work great
Two remote keys
Boost Gauge
The Rough:
Hood has paint deterioration and chipping (see photos)
Small crease / dent in passenger side, rear door
Slow rim leak, driver’s side front tire — likely due to age corrosion on alloys (looses about 1-2 psi per week)
Cruise Control not functioning (maybe never did after transmission conversion)
Driver’s door switch not recognized (common failure on these)
Some rust spots and chips, mainly on leading edge of the hood
We want to find a TDI enthusiast who will want the car and all the additional TDI related parts that we have found in his shop and garage as a complete package.
