I have a 2001 Jetta , the sound of the turning signals , is happening only at a faster pace ,then the regular turn signal sound, when turn signals are NOT on ?

And sometimes only one or two clicks at a time , it happens at any time , whether at a stop or while the car is moving fast or slow. The sound is the same as the turning signal sound and comes from the hazard area button, only the sound is slightly quieter.

Any suggestions ?

Thank you.

Its possible the hazard/flasher switch is failing slowly. Mine will randomly do stuff like that in addition to not working at all. They can be found on www.tdiparts.com for a very reasonable price.
__. *Could* be the problem but not likely. See "Merkur's" post below that one.

Some have had luck shooting some WD40 on the base of the stalk.
That worked for me, for about 12 months and 50k miles. But this spring I finally had to replace the turn signal assembly. About $90 for the part and $200 for the labor.

Try the WD40 first. It's cheaper.
