TDI GTG - Las Vegas

We (vwmikel and myself) would like to start organizing a TDI GTG for the spring. We don't have a date set in stone, but my hope is that people will roll in from up north, so I would like to do it before it gets "too warm" for them

It would be nice to do it on a weekend that follows a first or third Friday, as there are VW-specific meets on those days, and it might be nice to incorporate that into our own festivities!

So, the dates are: April 7th and 8th, April 21 and 22, or May 5 and 6. Do any of these days work best for anyone?

Another idea was to organize a Dyno Day. We have a contact in town who has an AWD Mustang Dyno, and he said he would be interested in the possibility of a Dyno Day with TDI folks. But I haven't talked details with him yet, because I need to know if there is any interest out there first!

If you would like a cruise, there is always the option of doing the Red Rock Loop (there is $ per car, I can find out the rate), or even driving out to Valley of Fire (I believe there is also a cost for that).

If you do come into town for this, it shouldn't be too hard to find someplace to stay. The Santa Fe Hotel/Casino is right up the road from our place.

So, lets get the ideas rolling! Who is interested?

To get back on topic - I'm in!

Any of those dates would be good for me. A cruise would be nice, as would a dyno day. I would be curious to know what my Revo tune has done for my HP/torque. Red Rock Canyon scenic drive is $7.00 per car, but I just learned that I can get a lifetime pass for $10.00 (w/ senior discount) and it's good at any Federal park.

I like the idea of a spring GTG. I hope we can get a lot of TDI owners together.

I hadn't thought about coordinating with Wüste 2012. It's an interesting idea. What is the date for Wüste this year? (it's usually late May or early June). It might be impractical to have this GTG on Wüste weekend, but we could have a bunch of TDIs all meet sometime during Wüste as a special GTG.

I'd be interested in a GTG out there! Anyone need some work? I could certaily bring tools, do a couple timing belts, clutches, intake cleanings... whatever you've got!

I'll be in Vegas Thursday May 31st in the evening and probably staying a full week.

Wow, now I (almost) wish I had some work that needs doing. Maybe I can talk you into coming back in 3 or 4 years when I'll be due for a timing belt.

It will be nice to meet you anyway, maybe I can learn something.

Any more info on this? Ive spoken to Matt and if this happens he is going to do timing belts on two friends 06 Jettas. Need to make this happen. I'm sure there are more people that could use some work from Matt.

With Turanga organizing it, there is a very good chance it will happen. The only open question is: on what date. Since most responders so far have had little date preferences and Matt might be more likely to have scheduling issues. Perhaps she will coordinate dates with Matt to make a final decision. It is probably a month or two away from happening at this point. Can your friends wait that long for their TBs?

Hope it happens. Went to a GTG in Cal at Wild Rose and got an RC tune a few years ago and had a great time. Nice to have one here.

I am leaning towards April 21-22. Does anyone object? If you are in town on Friday, April 20, then we can meet up for Third Friday at Findlay North VW. On Saturday, we can do a drive out to Red Rock or Valley of Fire, maybe do a potluck or picnic or something, and Sunday... who knows.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Also, we have a decent driveway; there is the possibility of doing some mechanical-type stuff on Sunday for those who need it...

(Edit: Our driveway could be used for smaller projects. Bigger stuff... IM Mike, and see what he says We can also see about a Dyno event, if there is enough interest.)

I'm down for dyno time

I know I'll be there from May 31st to June 2nd/3rd ish.

I'd definitely be down for some dyno time as I can test the different fuel mappings of my digital tuning box!

Wuste is a great event, and we will be there again this year. But there is already so much going on that weekend, we thought it would be nice to have something a little earlier in the spring, geared towards a smaller, mostly diesel crowd

21-22 would be good! I've had it pointed out to me that 7-8th is Easter weekend... Some may have other obligations that weekend with that in mind.

Alright... we have a date! Now comes the fun stuff: Figuring out who is coming, and what we will be doing.

I will have Mike talk to the dyno guy, hopefully tomorrow, so we can see what the rates would be, and what day would work best.

Does everyone like the idea of a cruise? I'm thinking we could do that on whatever day the dyno stuff isn't. We could do the cruise, then meet somewhere for food, or do a potluck/picnic thing with the cruise. Thoughts?
