Rear Wiper Motor Removal

My rear wiper motor went kaput. I’ve gotten almost everything undone, but there is what looks like a smooth round black retainer nut holing the shaft in place. But that retainer nut doesn’t have any flats that I can put a wrench or socket onto. Instead it has a small groove on either side that I tried to use with a flat tip screw driver and hammer to loosen, but no luck. Is there a special tool for this wiper shaft retainer?

Sounds like the trim cover. Try prying it off. The nut should be underneath.

Thanks Todd, that did the trick. It wasn’t a threaded retainer after all, but more like a thick plastic spacer. It was just really stuck on tight.
