Fuel guage inop after pump change

hello everyone

I have a 2004 TDI ive owned since new, 248000 miles. I had a fuel issue about a month ago, I work on turbine helicopters and routinely use jet a. Out of a container marked clean fuel I pumped a bit of water into tank. Killed pump. replaced pump. Fuel guage now reads 1/3 and will not move. Removed pump, ohms change as float moves, wiring seems intact, fuel guage stuck.

any ideas?

Did you use a VW part or an after market unit? Some of the after market parts are junk. There is a way to set the fuel gauge in VAGCOM to get it back in line but it takes a full tank so as to code. You can search it on here, as I have read about here.

Filled up again and the guage went to full. Maybe its learning the new sender.... we shall see what the next week brings

Its an aftermarket unit.
