Flashing dash lights.

I have a 2005 golf TDI. recently I noticed my dash lights flashing on and off. The head lights are not affected. Evrything else seems to be functioning normally. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to fix it?

On my 2004 Golf [this is not a Golf only issue], the cause was dirty contacts for the dash lights in the headlight switch. This was a mk4 with the longer headlight switch assembly.

Opened the assembly, cleaned the contacts, and no issue for another 150k miles.
