Hey Gent's - Anyone using a newer ... Mobil1 FS X2 5W-50 weight oil in their Pumpe Duse 1.9l BRM diesel? The FS X2 formulary does not meet VW spec 505.01 however the oil does meet Porsche A40.

For oil shear attributes the Porsche spec's C30 & A40 are light years beyond VW spec., 505.01 IIRC. See Mobil spec's below..

The western Colorado summer temperatures are *90F + and above seasonally, May thru September.

Historically I've been using Valvoline (VV-966) SynPower MST 5W-40 w/ VW 505.01.
Adopting the 7K to 7.5K mile OCI (Original cam/lifters R&R @ 156K mi)

  • Wide viscosity grade to help provide a flexible combination of high and low temperature protection
  • Performs and protects at low temperatures

Applications

The balanced technology of Mobil 1 FS X2 5W-50 helps to make it suitable for many types of vehicles and operating conditions, from mild to severe.

  • Many gasoline and diesel (without Diesel Particulate Filter) engine technologies

Interesting I use Mobil-1 TDT 5-40 for the last 150,000 with 10,000 oil changes with good luck. At 190k and have some cam wear so may change it when I do the timing belt. I live in cooler weather so the 5-50 may be better for you. Again no approved but I am not in warranty either lol.

Since I live in the lower Kalifornia desert where temps hit mid 100's by late April and go up from there before starting to cool down in late September early October, it would seem that this would be a "no brainer"; especially since these units are obviously way out of warranty time, and probably mileage wise.

And also since I'm currently trying to find an 05.5-06 Jetta with pkg 2 that hasn't been thrashed (and preferably has a new billet cam/lifters).
When I find the right one and squeeze the trigger I think this is the juice that I'll use from then on.

I might wait awhile and obtain a baseline with one oil change running the 505.01 oil for a short run of say 4-5k to observe temps, mpg's etc. etc. and then go to this stuff.

Interesting to hear what others think. Those are pretty smokin' specs above.
