There is a flex joint that in an integral part of the down pipe as it exits the engine compartment. This has failed more than a few times during the life of the car. Is this a common issue? Is there a fix other than just replacing the whole down pipe from the turbo to the muffler?

Maybe excess movement from the engine due to tired motor mounts... I'm still using the factory one on my car, and it's 326k miles old.

Not that I'm aware of. I just replaced mine at 250,000 it was sucking fumes in the car in defrost mode. Not good.

You can use defrost while on recirculate. Just don't turn it all the way up and the defrost will still work.

That is what I was doing till I got it fixed. But if I forgot when I warmed it up, it got all smoked up inside.
