At last!!!

Just bought a 2001 Golf GT TDI 110.
Yeah, I know I'm weak, and I should have ordered a 115, but I kept driving past it and finally caved in.
I look forward to sharing my experiences with you all. The forum has really helped so far, and this can only increase now I have actually bought a TDI!!!!
Picking my new baby up on Saturday - need insurance now.
Due to a pretty rapid Passat 1.8T, and an overweight right foot, I seem to have accumulated 9 points on my driving licence (all in 2000)!
To add to my woes, I have zip no claims, as the Passat kept getting broken into.
Anyone know of a broker/company which would love to help me??
Thanks
Matt

In a word - No!
Unfortunately, TDi's, although diesels, are placed in highish Insurance groupings, which won't help you, and nor will the fact that you've chosen a 110 rather than a 90/100!

I have a lovely Rover 100 diesel for sale if you want one, which I think is Group 4 or 5!

Well, we've had 4 Rover Metro/100's in our family in the past 8 years & they've been the most reliable cars we've ever had, including Audis & 2 Jettas - which, frankly, were dreadful reliability- & maintenance-cost wise! Worst fault was a clutch cable which disappeared into the bulkhead because VW hadn't reinforced that area on RHD models.

sprattyken,

You should be able to find something on the net surely? Direct line and similar seem to want to just cherry pick, You have to be squeaky clean and drive a boring car.

Richard,

That bulkhead problem was so common that VW now make a shaped re-enforcing plate with a handy peel off stickey backing so that it stays there while you are welding it!

I thought the later Metros were a vast improvement but despite claiming a complete suspension re-design it's still rock hard over bumps and I have to pump up the hydragas part of the suspension every year on most of them. In fact I bought the pump entirely on the strengh of the work I knew I would get! It's quite unusual to find one without a bashed-in sump they ride so low. I'm talking about the petrol versions though. Although they're not my favorite car when you talk to the owners they always love them, as you do, so they can't be that bad.

Try the likes of Taylor Price (Direct Choice) Insurance or the specialists that advertise in the back of Autocar.

Also, ask VW for a quote - some have found them cheap.

Done and dusted!
Looking forward to next year!

Now I've made the decision, really looking forward to my new wheels.......was raised on a farm, and all that talk of torque brings back fond memories. eg setting off in 5th gear etc.

Final details of new car: Golf 5 Dr TDI 110, mettalic silver, 15" Avus2 alloys (Dunlops), factory fitted 6CD and Electronic Climate Control, GT spec, charcoal interior.

Due to speeding offences, I'm only nanoseconds away from a driving ban. I'm therefore likely to be attempting some ridiculous MPG records, and driving all the sales reps insane pottering about.

Did you get your insurance ? I have a mate who is an insurance broker, he's usually very competitive.

Know how I've kept my license clean ?

Cruise control.

When I enter say a 50 zone, I'll drive at just over 50 and hit set, now the car just drives at 50 and my license is safe.

Works great on the A12 extension that has Gatso cameras its entire length for example.

It's dead easy to add to a TDI, see link on my site.
