Is it better to pull the transmission when I pull my gas motor when I go to swap in the BHW? Or, can I leave it in and install the BHW without much of an issue?

TIA

There are just too many to list....
I drop the whole engine and trans on the subframe straight out the bottom in one nice chunk.

This is a V8 from an A8, but similar:

And here is a BHW and trans from a B5:

If you don't have a lift, but just a cheery picker, it is still easier IMHO to pull both together. First timer should take 4-5 hrs.

I have pulled the engine/tranny when I did the 6mt swap a few years ago. I was just hoping with the BHW being smaller than the 2.7T that I could get away with leaving the transmission in.

Sounds like in the long run, it would be best to pull both.

Too many.
You could leave it in, but in my experience it's more hassle that way. Once it's all out, the engine to trans bolts are very easy to get to.

Pull everything. It ends up being quicker, it's cleaner, and you can visual check everything better.
