Hi all,
I'm new to Tdi tuning, but not VW....have tuned several Apr 3+ over the last 10yrs.....that being said. I'm on a mission....I recently acquired a 2015 SEL Golf TDI 24K on the clock as my project car. Over the next 4 months I will be transforming it into a GTD as close to euro spec as possible.
I'm looking To bounce thoughts / get ideas for the build.
Looking to keep costs under 10k total.
Fixmyvw.com is coming out with a stage 2+ with larger turbo (I was told in a cpl weeks or so) so the power will be. I need guidence on suspension and brakes, lsd and wheels / tire size....feel free to chime in. Still undecided on head/ tail lights...power outside mirrors and bumpers/ body kits and motor/tranny mount upgrades.

My GTD build is nearing completion. Just running in, highly detuned, and being wound up again soon. Dervtech hoping to get 400bhp off nitrous, not sure with :D

GTD2872VRK based 2.0 PD engine. :)

Reading the last sentence sounds like a list from mods over at Vortex. All are great if you seen added value in the bits and pieces VW had to cut off the Mk7 platform to sell it over here at a price point.

If you don't swap the torsion bar rear suspension for the GTI IRS, it's not worth calling it a build.

Reading that last sentence, I'd have to disagree. Sure, IRS is better, but I don't think it's a prerequisite for an awesome build. There's a member here with a gtd1752vrk turbo, limited slip diff, CP3 hpfp, and other sweet mods on his mk7 golf that put it on par (or better) with the GTD.

To each his own, the actual GTD has the GTI rear suspension, which is a slight drop over the Golf.

Soon as you go IRS, lots more options are on the table for enjoying the twistiest, it's up to the owner and his wallet to determine where is money is best spent.

What engine or power wise does the GTD have over the TDI? Is the block the same? Tranny the same? Controllers the same? Will a new turbo and tune bring a TDI to GTD status power wise?

GTD uses the GTD1449vz turbo, slightly larger than ours. I'm not aware of any other differences in the powertrain. Curious how the DEF tank fits on the GTD with its IRS suspension, and the reasoning for it not trickling over to the NA market.

With upgraded turbo (tune not even finalized yet), CP3, LSD, and spring/shocks this car is a hoot to drive through some twisty roads :)

Many little changes, probably all top end, the biturbos have a different bottom end too. IRS really goes a long way on these cars, have a stage 4 CR jetta in at the moment with an IRS swap and it really eats up the road.

That's a beauty! Looks a lot like my black 2 door mk6 GTD build. I might need to get some window tint after seeing that.

GTD is euro only, I believe the doesn't need DEF, rules may have changed but VW was cheating over there too.

Looks like the GTD has the GTI Pole Position wunderdiff too. I'm thinking a regular LSD would prob suffice.

Not to tell ya your business guy but Meth isnt the answer. Yes itll make you go faster but it will ruin your life.


Eh it won’t be done badly, so I’m not worried about it. Not sure I’ll tune for it either. So won’t have to worry about running out, which I never will. Also I want to have a way to run the engine for a few miles with no meth to burn and moisture out of the engine before turning it off.

That makes sense, likely only has DPF. Regular LSD is easier to install rather than retrofit the fancy OEM diff as well I'm sure.

They give an idea on pricing yet?
In casual conversation....the turbo stage 2+ it will be 2500ish... much larger turbo...as soon as they release it, I'll be on it. I'm starting off w injen intake, HPA dogbone mount, and dual exhaust valance and dual exhaust. All in preparation for the 2+.

Cool, I'll be interested to see what that much larger turbo is. To me, much larger would be something like a 2260.

I was thinking the stage 2+ was the CR190, but not at that price..unless it includes clutch/flywheel and downpipe. I would also think something "much larger" would be considered at least stage 4 at that point.

The only 2015 TDI turbo upgrade we offer is the CR190, the standard turbo on the Euro GTD models. There must have been a miscommunication on our end.
