brake dust shields (aka splash shields aka backing plates)

2001 tdi GL

I am in the process of gathering stuff for my nth brake job.
Last time I was doing it I noted that my brake dust shields
(or whatever the proper term is) are rusting away and
are now very flimzy. I guess VW thought I would have sold
before now.

Is there a source for these? How difficult is R&R? Does on have
to remove spindles? Is it worth it?

Yes, you have to remove the spindles. Its a bit of a pain.
