I think there is much more to this topic than higher price = better quality.

I actually think higher price = better quality is very wrong.

A rich man could care less about the reliability of the autos he buys, while a working class guy depends on his car's dependability. A rich man wants style, prestige, speed, and high comfort. If he has to hire a full-time mechanic to ride along in the Jag, Ferrari, Rolls, Bentley, or Lambo, he'll do it.

Midsized family sedan owners gravitate toward Accords and Camrys because they don't break down, not because they offer style, prestige, speed, and high comfort.
