tons of "No Communication" errors - engine, trans, ABS, airbags, steering, cent conv.

Hi, I hope some can help me figure out this problem. I have a 2009 JSW with 94680 km-58831 miles. About 6 months ago the MIL light came on. I finally got the HEX-NET tool from Ross and scanned the car. It had multiple "No Communication" errors. I cleared the faults, and they've all come back plus more.

The car has had very little work done to it. I had 2 temp sensors replaced by the dealer under warranty, and there's a slim chance my wife might messed up the fuse panel while trying to fix a burned out bulb I don't know where to begin, has anyone seen this before?

There is no magic bullet to fix them all by a single action. Here is what I would do:
1) Start by fixing the O2 sensor. That is the most important one since it is related to engine control, the engine is the most expensive item.
2) Once you have successfully cleared the p0136 O2 sensor problem, probably by installing a new O2 sensor at the correct location since there are 2 O2 sensors, then I would turn my attention to the steering. Perhaps a new J527 instrument cluster module with integrated G28 steering sensor will knock out a few of the fault codes, or maybe the connector is loose.

As far as causing all this be changing a light bulb, impossible.

I think Stutgart is right about the O2 sensor. As far as the rest of them go, batteries that are on their way out sometimes will cause weird things to happen. Is your battery original and do you have the means to test it.

mine did the same when the battery was starting to go...

Those DTCs point to a CAN bus issue. Definitely make sure it has a good battery in the car as low voltage can cause all sorts of odd communications issues. I doubt that is what is going on with yours though. If it were I would have expected at least a few low voltage DTCs for the various controllers, you have none.

My money is on this^.

I bet there is either a missing fuse or burned fuse to a major CAN bus control module, such as for the CAN Gateway or J519 Central Electronics Control Unit. I'd get that owners manual out and make sure all the fuses in both fuse boxes are all good and where they are supposed to be. I've seen relay issues in a few cars too. I'd be verifying the ones powering the modules I mention are OK if the fuses are not the problem.

Ugh. The first thing you should do on a Dub before removing any fuses, is to take pictures inside of the two fuse boxes.

The owners manual does not come with fuse diagrams so if you pull a fuse and don't remember were it came from or someone not to savvy pulls fuses and doesn't get them back in the right place, you might really be screwed unless you can get a wiring diagram for your cars model and manufacturing date.

A VG place to start is to check for loose/corroded grounds. On my 2006, there is a large chassis ground underneath/hidden by the air cleaner box that has worked loose twice causing some mayhem.

I know we've got too many stickies, but maybe we need to have one that says,

"IF YOU HAVE SEVERAL SYSTEMS INDICATING MALFUNCTIONS AT THE SAME TIME, THE FIRST THING TO DO IS CHECK YOUR BATTERY AND ALL GROUNDS."

It turns out a aging battery was a big part of my problem. With the car off battery voltage was good at 12.5v. With the car running, voltage was 14.5, so charging was good. But MIN voltage when starting was 9.65v, which is bad. So I got a battery from the dealer and swapped in in. After driving for 2 days, most of the codes are gone, but I still have the 000310 for the O2 sensor, the 01299 for the steering, and 00332 for the fuel cap.

I think I have to replace the O2 sensor, fix the fuel cap, but I don't know what to do about the comms error on the steering module. Any advice?
