Depending on the tires selected, fuel consumption from the EU test cycle will range between 57.4 to 58.7 mpg (4.1 to 4.3 l/100 km).
We should expect to see this type of offering with the new CAFE standards coming into effect in the next decade or so.

This is not the most efficient 1-series diesel - it's the price leader. The 115hp 116d Efiicient Dynamics Edition is rated at 3.8 l/100km.
