Silly newb questions

2005 mk4 tdi with bew

Smokes heavy (embarassing amount) on start up I’d say it’s white smoke not steam does not clear right up or smell sweet.
Car has 264k cam seems to be in decent shape just checked not saying it’s brand new but appears alright
Car is egr deleted and straight piped
Haven’t had it long enough to know if it consumes either coolant or oil....
Glow plug light comes on quickly and shuts off
Was gonna buy vagcom thinking injection timing was off but Is that possible with a bew??
Car doesn’t seem to smoke after start up and once initial smoke dissipates.

Ideas or suggestions?
I was thinking injector dripping fuel but what do I know??

I would monitor oil and coolant levels/consumption closely for a while and probably have a definitive answer instead of just speculation at this point.

I am also getting what I’d think is poor mileage 30 maybe 31 mpg cars a manual wagon. Mixed driving but a decen amount of around time. Guess I was hammering down and did also just diesel purge her. Hoping that would help with smoke no difference.
