That is really strange - I use the same version on both my 1Z and AAZ. The engine blocks are almost identical - 1Z has the machining for the crank sensor that the AAZ doesn't require. My mechanic went through 8 different ones today that fit the '96 1Z engine in the frost plug (very different engine I know) & all were about 2 mm too small.
Thanks for info on the block! That is interesting as the one in this catalog looks almost identical to the first one I saw them get in to the shop, but I'm not sure the manufacturer. Heater part number: 3100034 - listed for 1993-97 1.9 Turbo Diesel and 1998-99 1.9 Turbo Diesel (direct Injection)
Frost Plug location: listed as LR (left Rear) or CR (center rear) for Indirect injection and LR for TDI
Bore Diameter: 36.5mm for both.
I used CR for both models with element at 6 oclock position (pointing down)
