My keys will not work in the slot of my 06 Jetta tdi. Goes in about halfway, if I turn it, it does lock but I cannot use it to unlock. Probably going to take off the door skin and see if I can access the locking mechanism, but I was wondering if there were any more efficient fixes for this issue. I have tried two separate keys and neither of them worked.

Wait you actually use the manual way? I've always used the remote.
My remote sometimes acts up so I just need to have the manual way as backup. It seems the lock mechanism actually rotates inside the door assembly if I keep turning the key:confused:

I am so confused right now.

Try coating both sides of your key with a liberal amount of WD40. Then work the key in and out some. If lubing doesn't help you'll probably have to replace the lock mechanism.

The key lock (tumbler assembly) can be removed from the door without removing the door skin. That is likely where the trouble is.They are white metal and turn all into white powder in a Michigan's winter climate.
In fact, you can't get the skin off without first taking the key lock off.
