Just A simple Question

I have a 1995 Vento 1.9 GL TDI which is ticking over a about 1000 rpm not being versed in the art of diesel (more a single cylinder M/Cycle Man) this seems a bit on the fast side to me how do I bring it down and if anyone knows what should it be......

My experience with the 1.9 TDI in the VW is that the idle speed (ticking) is slightly over 900 RPM. Hope this helps.

It will run a little faster for a few minutes when it's cold outside.

The stock idle speed is 903 RPM, and can be adjusted in adaptation channel 2 using VCDS or a factory scan tool. The stock adaptation value is 32768.
