MB could walk away from diesels

Everything I know says MB will meet EPA requirements for 2018 and announce by this Fall they are offering Bluetecs to the US for 2018.
This exec says nothing. He says the engineers are working with the EPA on meeting diesel emissions requirements for 2018 and he can't comment on their progress. So why is Reuters thinking this is News? He doesn't say diesels are or are not coming. I think what will happen next is MB will announce that the 2018 BT meets all new EPA requirements, that it will be certified clean, and will be optional on at least one 2018 E class plus an SUV for starters. MB: we need your excellent diesels.
