I had my 01m trans fluid and filter changed at 78k miles.
That was the first one for this car,
What is the consensus as to the interval for future changes.
I know the factory says 100k.

The consensus seems to be 100k. It certainly won't hurt to change it sooner if you feel the need.

30,000 miles starting from day one!

Do yourself a favor and take a fluid sample....You will find that it's already overdue after your recent change!

No wear metal should ever read above 100ppm in any transmission fluid sample.

I prefer no longer than 50K on the 01M. The transmission kicks out a lot of metal. The longer the interval, the more metal circulates through the trans. The filter is very coarse, so changing the oil and cleaning the magnet is the only way to remove contaminants.

There are just too many to list....
If I had an 01M, I would drain and fill it every 20k (easy, quick, and won't take but 2.5L of fluid) and every 80k I would drop the pan and replace the filter and pan gasket (again pretty easy and quick, and they still won't need a whole lot of fluid).

If you have a flush machine like I do, a flushing every 80k with a new filter may be all that you need. But when you drain and fill or drop the pan, you only get about half the fluid out as the converter holds quite a bit more.

Keep in mind they are still a rather fragile transmission, and even all the dead ones I see are still usually full of 'not-that-bad-looking' fluid.
