Hey guys, I've searched the forum and I can't seem to find the answer to my question. I have aftermarket struts on my 2003 jetta (I can tell cause there is no Allen key hole on the top) and the top mounts are completely finished (the strut comes up about one inch into the engine bay). Are the top mounts and bearings universal, or do I need a specific brand to fit with the unknown brand of my struts? Thanks!

They should be universal, however, I would recommend new struts too.
I generally find they are pretty worn by the time the mounts are that far gone.

Good to know. Thanks for the response! I'll see if I can't find a good deal on some new struts. I have a manual conversion coming up and I was hoping the struts wouldn't be finished

I recently did my suspension and didn't realize how far gone they were until the new one's were in.
I recommend looking at KermaTDI, when I was looking, they had oem with mounts very reasonably priced.

You will want the strut spreader tool. Makes life much easier!
