For sale is my '98 Jetta TDI 5spd. I've owned this TDI for about 4 years now and have enjoyed the great fuel mileage and few modifications. Unfortunately, I have too many cars and this one needs go. Here is what I have done to it:
Repairs:
-Installed new timing belt and water pump shortly after purchasing it, so about 4 yrs ago.
-Installed brand new ignition switch due to the common problems associated with the switch.
-Replaced both rear window regulators with cheap Dorman parts from Autozone.
-Recently replaced coolant flange due to cracking.
-Installed brand new waste gate actuator due to original being seized.
-Re-sealed top cover and quantity adjustor on the injection pump.
-Used Ross Tech cable and software to adjust QA.
-New tires (less than a year old)
-Installed brand new glow plugs from IDparts.com
Mods:
-Bosio PP520 nozzles installed and calibrated by Kerma TDI.
-Malone stage 3 tune
-Boost guage temp installed (still needs guage pod and final install)
Cons:
-The check engine light is illuminated and so it currently will not be able to pass smog test here in California. I used Ross Tech/VCDS to check codes and its kicking out a fault for glow plug circuit. I replaced the glow plugs, which were required anyway, and still have CEL illuminated. Definately appears to need a new glow plug harness as well (insulation is deteriorated).
-Needs radio/stereo
-Rear window regulators broke and need to be replaced again (cheap Dorman parts broke)
-Leaks oil
-Clutch seems to shutter when rolling from a stop, does not slip though (worst when cold)
-Needs guage pod and final install for boost guage
-Front passenger window inoperative
-Seats stained from previous owner
-Factory anti-theft system seems to have a mind of its own
-Clear coat/paint deteriorating on hood/roof
Pros:
-Starts and runs solid
-A lot more torque with the nozzles/Malone tune
-Ice cold A/C and heater works fine
-Sun roof works just fine
-Clean title in hand
