Service error

I recently purchased a 2015 Golf several months ago and on several occasions, while I was driving, there has been a audible alarm that sounded with message on the MFD that comes up and says "Service Error ****".
It only last a second or so and I don't have the chance to read the full message and then it goes out.

It does not appear to have any affect on driving.

The CEL has never came on.

It only happened probably 4-5 times since buying the car. (note: I dont drive this car much except on trips, so it stays in the garage the majority of the time.



Also, since there has been no CEL display, would scanning it with VCDS be beneficial?
Any suggestions?

Scanning would be the next step. There may be a stored code that doesn't set a CE light. Do it yourself or find someone or try the dealer.

I take it back. I just did a scan and one of the faults was steering wheel park sensor error. My son (it’s his car) says the error is the same as the one shown above. Is it serious? My warranty is about to run out, LOL.

known issue for the gear selector and switches, dealer should replace it, there will be codes stored for it, just not codes that'd cause a CEL.

Thanks. I missed my warranty by one day. Nevertheless, it seems probable that VW will comp this repair.

the code should be stored, and they should be able to pull the mileage to show it happened before warranty was up, fingers crossed.

Scan it yourself first if possible to prevent erasing the code later.

Nothing like this. I also read the link that you posted and my symptoms are quite different.

I can be driving down the road at hwy speed and all of suddenly i have a warning chime and a quick display on the MFD. It doesnt last but a second and there is no time to read it. Its always does it when I have been driving for a while, never at start up.

It happens so fast that I only have time to read " Service error***" then it goes away.

I have no Idea of what it says after the fact.




Since the vehicle is under warranty I made an appointment with the dealer.

I'll update the post on what the service center says.

good luck this won't be the first one they've changed out, not sure if it's the wiring that becomes chafed or if its bad switch bounce.

The steering wheel malfunction is it. It requires a new gear selector lever. VW just agreed to replace mine for free, one day after the warranty had expired.

Just got back from the dealer and they replaced the transmission shifter assy:

I bought the vehicle in April as a CPO.

I was only responsible for the deductible of $50.00

Is the deductible a CPO thing? I thought VWoA would pick up the entire tab on warranty work.

Or is the dealer just trying to pocked a little more for their troubles?

Its a CPO thing. According to the VW Certified Warranty Manual it states:
"The warranty period for a Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen vehicle is 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first."


Under the terms of warranty it states:
"Repairs under this warranty will be performed at no additional charge after a deductible of $50 per dealer visit. In the event several repair attempts are necessary to repair a manufacture's defect in materials or workmanship covered by this warranty, the deductible with respect to that repair must be paid only once. Vehicles purchased before January 1, 2012 are not subject to a deductible."
