What is it, does it do?

2015 Passat

Maybe a dumb question, but there is a cable coming from the body of the car under the hood on the left side and it goes to the hood.

I have no under hood light. What is it? Alarm ?

I'm trying to figure out a way to put a couple of LED strips for lighting under the hood for night times.

Without looking at mine, wouldn't it be the windshield washers?

If it goes into the hood itself, it could be heated washer nozzles. If it goes into the hood latch, it's for the alarm system.

If it's the bundle by the hood hinge it's the windshield washer hose, and power for the heated washer nozzles.

That must be it, it's by the hinge.
