1. The wiring harness - was probably just the Glow Plug harness ?
They may have partially destroyed your old one at shop #1 removing it to do a compression test or borescope type procedure. And then disposed the carcass. They need interval replacement anyway - not real hardy in nature.
2. Reconfirm / Verify
Glad you got out for close to 2500 on engine swap.
Did shop #2 have anything to say about previous engine disaster ?
As in was it really a connecting rod failure ?
Did you get new timing belt service on Replacement Engine ?
