VE versus PD engine

Not seeing an answer in the FAQ, I must query you experts: I am looking to purchase a 2004 Jetta TDi with 5-speed manual tranny. Does that car have the VE engine or the PD engine? Thanks.

And do keep in mind that the PD engines in the 2004-and-newer cars should have had exclusive use of a 505.01 spec oil throughout their lifetime. If you can't verify this, don't buy the car !!!!! (If you can get service records, the old VW part number for that oil was G052167A2; the most recent VW-supplied oil p/n is ZVW-352-167-Q-DSP. The wrong oil was ZVW 352 540S.)
