Door latch switch problem-(car thinks door is open)

I saw some older posts on this subject. Can anyone give me a quick recent rundown on the most effective way to correct this problem.
Basically, i did a rear brake job on my '01 TDI Golf and when I finished the car thought the door was open all the time. I have a small low-rise pad lift in my garage and it doesn't flex the car when lifting, so i can't imagine the brake job had anything to do with it but is is an odd coincident.
I did spray about a half of a can of electrical contact cleaner into the lock mechanism with no results.

$3 electrical switch from Radio Shack (or some other electrical supply store) and a bit of your time will take care of the problem.
