Hi Guys,

Managed to blag a few hours at an Airstrip, its mainly used for testing cars/bikes rather than planes, here is a mini feature:

http://nosmokenopoke.com/153mph-volkswagen-jetta-tdi/

153mph GPS was all the way aound on the 160mph Speedo!!

It was crazy hot so the car seemed to smoke a little more than usual, it was tuned and dyno'd at about 10 degreesC rather than the 28 it was yesterday!!

We will break the 160mph barrier before the Jetta is finished, not sure what the fastest FWD diesel actually is, anyone know??

More video's will be added to our Facebook page as we get chance to upload!!

Sweet Ryan love how fast to 100 then you can tell fighting the air drag makes that next 50 mph much much tougher to get to.
Well done ... and so glad to see this before any other posts by the guy in Texas trying to go fast on Air strips.

Take care,

Drew

Good work. At least it doesn't take a completely un-streetable beetle with a HY35 and NOS to break 140mph standing mile :D

Yeah its amazing how fast you get to 100, 30 even and then it seems to drag!

Standing mile result isn't on there, but I have a graph and all the raw data at the office if anyone wants to see. Was verified with a 'Performance Box' GPS Monitor.

Top Speed = 153.07
0-60 = 5.68
0-100 = 12.73
1/4 mile = 14.17 @ 104.27
Standing Mile (1609.34m) = 146.05mph

Outside temps were well over 25C so it was smokey. Also found the TIP pipe had come off at some point, whether that made a difference I don't know.

Enjoy :)

Look at ryanp's disadvantages too! He has the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car and he's forced to shift with his left hand.:D

Yeah I think the standing mile takes out driver error a little more than the 1/4 mile

I've said it before and I will say it again, the steeringwheel is on the RIGHT SIDE :)

We need GPS proof! If I did the same on the Jetta I would be claiming 165mph+ as the speedo was all the way around. Still impressive though for an old bus :D

Is that factory? If so, I'd add at least another 50 kilos or so - those wheels and brakes can't be light!

Ash :)

Brakes are 4kg per side lighter than stock ;) its not doing bad for a fully stimmed road car IMO!!

As the guy sat in the car trying to hold the camera whilst Ryan gave it the beans up the runway, I can vouch that it's a very capable machine!
As always it was a pleasure to work with the Darkside team again and we're looking forward to filming the next instalment and subsequent testing ;)
