I Learned something,I had read somewhere that 99 was a split year for the ALH.
Aha!,this is what confused me.
"1999.5-2003 Golf/Jetta"
98 was a Beetle

Yes, confusing to be sure. The NB was the first chassis to use the ALH engine, and it was started in the '98 model year. The Golf/Jetta chassis did not do the switch over to the new Mk IV chassis until 99.5.

It gets even more fun when you look at little things like plug shapes (alternator, 3rd injector for example) or transaxle shifter tower parts. Fun for the whole family!

ALH is the engine, not the body generation.

The split on the body style generation for Jetta was in mid year 1999. It became the MarkIV at that point. Similarly, the ALH motor was replaced with the BEW engine for 2004 for all MarkIV models.
