i may write up a thread on my epic tale of PD turbo install hell but it was all i could do to get it off/on and take some pics. also, the thread might just be better summed up as holy crap that pd egr cooler is a major ****** to remove! ;)

Fair enough. Did you access the allen bolts (to the intake mani) from the top of the motor or did you crawl underneath?

Little of both?

once the egr cooler is out, and it *must* come out as well as the turbo inlet pipe, the rest is fairly easy - all bolts for the intake manifold can be accessed from the top. there are 6 6mm allen bolts to take off the stock intake manifold from the head - you want to take it out in one piece, as opposed to the top part and then the part with the flaps. i had the car jacked up the entire time, since you *will* need to get under the car to get at everything for the egr cooler and exhaust manifold.

Thanks a lot. I didn't remove the EGR cooler, which was probably my problem. I have no reason for the EGR cooler since I blocked of the EGR.

When I have time I will give it another go.

BTW... the TIP is a ***** to get on again. :mad:

update...

just relocated this in my golf as well, here's a couple pics. it's much nicer in this location. wish i had realized in the first place it fits here:

the whole picture (kinda crappy focus):

i love this setup. to install this all you need is the filter head ($35), a filter ($15), a few small clamps (<$5), some fuel line ($10?), and modifying the OEM bracket (easy) and you have either 2 or 5 micron filtration :)

Did you use the 5 micron 6" filter? It had enough room to fit? Also, which heater did you buy?

yes i use the 5micron (actually filters out 92% of 2micron particles) 6" tall filter. fits fine if you just modify the oem fuel filter bracket as shown in my pics. i bought the side-load heater that was on the reliableindustries site. not sure what their site is up to now, it's changed since when i originally bought mine, but i'm sure google will yield other places to purchase it...

There is no information on that site. "Under Construction". Is there any technical information on the Stanadyne fuel filters like you can find on Racors, like mounting hole dimensions, overall dimensions, flow specs. I've done some searches and found nada, so far.
Depth = 101mm
Depth = 105mm
Height =162mm (smallest) 243mm (largest)
http://www.stanadyne.com/docs/pubf/99889 FM Brochure.pdf

There used to be a PDF of the exact dimensions on their site, I cannot find it. Other than that, their site is working fine for me.

Lots of info all of which has been covered:

That's excellent, thanks very much. I don't know why none of this turned up on my google searches, but it's exactly what I needed.

These old threads are more important now than ever before. Fuel heaters are a definite help on northern vehicles and may well aid the HPFP in living a long and happy life after warranty.

In ON, would be the any VW dealer. Ask for the Performance Formula

Here's the dealer locator

I assume since this thread is about the Stanadyne fuel filter setup, then that means he is asking about the filter, not the fuel treatment. VW carries the treatment but not any filter components, at least not my VW dealer.

What kindof filter life are people getting out of the 5 micron????

I Feel like mine might be plugging after 5k mi. Either that or its the hot weather giving me more smoke at full throttle.

I'm not sure about these particular filters but the CAT 2u filters are getting solid 40k-60k service intervals on our cars. What I am sure about is hot weather increases smoke ;)

I get 30k or so. I usually change it once a year.

I don't think it needs changed at 30k but that is about how many miles I drive in a year.
