1,9 tdi AFN fueling/turbo issue

Got a snag on the old girl,

When I hit around 2100rpm (in any gear other than 1st) the car hesitates and if I push it to drive through, it then borks. when you let off the throttle runs normal again but you get a massive, and I mean masshooooosive cloud of grey smoke out the back that just hangs in the air? The engine bay fuel filter has just been changed and makes no difference.

Any one had this before or any ideas?

Forgot to mention, when warm if you turn it off and start it again it revs up by itself (roughly 3k) just the once and then settles at about 800rpm

You either have a sticky or worn turbo mechanism/sticky egr or all the above

Cheers Carlos, When you say sticky turbo mech do you mean the actuator and the wastegate etc. The egr has been blanked as the guy I bought it off had a chippy and used to run it on his old oil! Do you think I should remove the blanks and put it back in service? Its been pretty crudely done I didn't even notice it until it went for its test and the guy doing the test pointed it out. He did also funnily enough say that it didn't matter????
