Hello all,

I have a quick question about the timing belt intervals on the new 2010 TDI's. My 2002 was due every 128,000kms, and then my 2005 Passat went up to 160,000kms. The owners manual in my 2010 Golf Wagon TDI seems to indicate 180,000kms. It's rather vague though, not really being specific about an engine or model. Can anyone confirm that it's now due every 180kms?

Thanks

The TDI engine is now the only engine choice in that car that has a timing belt - the 2.5 has always been chain and the "new design" 2.0T is chain. So, looks like 180,000 km it is.

Traditionally the service intervals have been every 16,000 km, and 16,000 doesn't divide evenly into 180,000 km. Has something changed, or is the belt change actually at 176,000 or 192,000 km?

They have now changed the service intervals to 15,000kms which also threw me for a loop. Seems that the extra 1000kms I was getting out of my synthetic oil changes is now a no no. The manual states 180,000kms on the timing belt change. I just thought it was high, and no one has ever asked the dealership seeing as they are new engines, but with the mileage I do I usually factor that into my ownership costs.
