2001 MK4 2001 -REFLEX SILVER and now a MK5 JETTA Platinum Grey NON-TDI Tho.
yup, i was at a stoplight and it began literally bouncing between 0 and about 25 mph.

what the eff could cause this to happen?

it was kidna funny but i DO hope it is a DYI rememedy!!!

The speed sensor is on top of the transmission mounted on top of the differential. Check the connections.

The sensor itself is about $30 at a stealership and takes about 5 minutes to replace. (it's just hard to reach)

There was an issue with coolant migration from the reservoir that would do something like this, but IDK what year they solved it.
