Opportunity ** (sorry)

I'm selling my current daily driver, the 98 Jetta, 230k. About 30,000 miles ago, I went through the engine. The head was removed, hot tanked and rebuilt. Compression checked, manifold cleaned. New turbo from Aaron and rebuilt bigger injectors from Frank (brand new #3). Old poopie kit, etc. I've been maniacal with regards to fluids and maintenance, it really is the perfect donor. I say donor because the car was involved in an accident that resulted in a salvaged title and bad damage to the trunk area (thread on here somewheres) It's a perfectly good driver and I trusted it on a 4,000 mile round trip to Florida earlier this year. You would probably want to find a new Mk3 for swap, though. I think $1,500 is a fantastic deal. Drive it home today.

(Pictures to come)

Thanks for looking.

There are just too many to list....
There is an underhood trainwreck '98 Jetta here with a good body I bet the owner would part with, too.

Sorry it took me so long to get back with the PMs. I'm still serious about selling the car, but a new job has taken 100% of my attention for the last month. I have another post on here where I have a B4 engine, manual transmission and ECU for sale. (Engine minus exhaust/intake manifolds and turbo). $2,000 drives this car home with the extra engine/trans/ECU in the trunk.

I said those parts had 30k on them, I was wrong after checking my records. So, in an effort to be transparent, here's the history of the car since I've owned it. I used to keep more detailed records until the accident happened last summer. I'd really like to see this car go to someone who cares about TDI and appreciates the importance of the 1Z/AHU. By the way, that damn o ring on the oil cooler is leaking again.

I pretty much let the body and interior go because I had planned to do a toyota pickup swap with the ACME adapter. I just don't need another project and need to let it all go. The car really is just falling apart. I though I could get 300k out of a Mk3, it's just not going to happen. I don't see how yall do it. The engine and transmission run masterfully, but everything else is just shot.

There's been questions about whether the car could safely make a trip back to the buyer's home. The answer is yes, it's reliable and has never left me stranded. I trust it to traverse the country coast to coast. Though, with an engine in the trunk, there may be some scraping and tire rubbing on bumps.

Correct, two lifters collapsed and ate the cam. I'm real glad it happened before I sold it. Each lifter had bow tie wear marks... very odd consider those lifters never saw anything other than Pentosin 5-40 oil. Fortunately, bores were unscathed and were in spec. I had the head off to clean the intake ports and rebuild (mentioned above), I chose to use local parts supplier which has been known to commit shenanigans. I thought if I could see the parts, know they were oem quality, there was nothing to worry about. The guides were SM's, the seals were victor reinz. Sealed packages. But the lifters come in that snap together package, so the legitimacy can be questioned. It is conceivable that they were true German INA lifters and they didn't take to the original 185k cam. Either way, I learned my lesson and ordered an vw/audi cam and INA lifters from Bora Parts to replace everything.

I've done 1,500 and the lifters are wearing in circular pattern. After I put another 1,500 miles, I'd be comfortable listing it again. Until then, it's my daily driver. Sorry for the drama.

OK folks, I'm finally ready to revisit this idea. I took care of the cam and lifter issue as I said and have logged about 20,000 miles since then. Just a few months ago I did a timing belt kit as well. So yeah, this car and the spare engine need to go. I'd part with either individually.

just as I said before, this has been my daily driver faithfully. It's very reliable and needs nothing mechanically. It's the perfect donor opportunity.

Pm me to barter. I could be convinced to deliver for a fee.
