There are just too many to list....
5 is plenty.

I would only use OEM filters and o-rings, though. Lots of the aftermarket o-rings shrink up and leak after about 15k miles. You can get them from any Volkswagen dealer, the 02E transmission in the A3 is the same as the 02E transmission in any other Volkswagen product (at least as far as the filter and o-ring are concerned).

2012 audi a3 diy dsg service

for anyone interested I used this page (though it looks to have been taken down) for the step by step

tdiforums page still available but only shows the official vas tool and vag-com method neither of which i have....

fluid change kit: $140

14 mm hex socket (for drain plug): $5
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004W80PEW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

direct read torque wrench: $17
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019VMI0Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

O'reillys auto filter with hose and flow valve $6

will also need 8 mm hex for the snorkel, a 24 mm socket for the filter housing, car on jacks/jackstands and a couple torx bits to pull skid plate and air filter housing

I did the remove and replace top fill method; I measured out 4.4 liters removed, and added back in 4.5.
It took about 5 hours start to finish but I am a newb, so a little educational time mixed in. Removing air filter housing and battery tray was the most difficult part, after that pretty straight forward fluid change. It took me over an hour to refill through the filter hole as expected- its a slower method for sure.

Dealer quoted $750, another "specialty shop" quoted $450, which was the cheapest I had found. of note: I spent a little extra for the change kit- figured my first time and its only every 40k mi i would use the OEM stuff. Once you have the tools required this can be done for around $100. (for me this first time- i had some tools, but did need the ones listed- it cost me about $180)

Only about 250 miles post service- no change in upshifts as they were always smooth as can be, but I do think a little smoother on the automated downshifts coming to a stop. no fluid leaks.

Note: after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery the check engine light has been on, codes are for dpf and egr- i will be posting somewhere else in tdiforums for some assistance with these codes- just a psa if youre going to do this yourself....

thank you oilhammer for the response.
