Hesitation / running rough first start of the day

I have 90K miles on my 14', I use diesel kleen anti-gel at every fill-up. Since it got cold out when I first take off in the morning the car has a hesitation, kind of feels like it has power then looses it, and repeats. When this happens the exhaust has a strong smell to it. After a few minutes the problem goes away and the car runs perfect until the next morning.

I'm not sure where to even start looking.

Should throw codes, likely low rail pressure caused by intank lift pump.

There's no check engine light. Would it through a code without turning on the light.

CEL is for emissions-related errors. You could have codes without a light.

Injectors...

There are no codes stored nor pending. Dealer said to drive until a CEL. I spoke with VW corporate and opened a case, the car goes back in next week.

Thanks for the thread. Dealer also knows there is an issue, they felt it and documented it.

Mine didnt have any codes either. The service tech had to drive it first thing in the morning to believe me. They found one injector bad, but decided to replace them all..

I wonder how they diagnosed the injector.

From what I understand they seen the issue with VCDS. They told me they tested them and they were good “barely” with the exception of one. I don’t know the specifics on the how they figured it out.
