The EA113 based ones are great, yeah. LIke to eat ignition coils, but they are cheap and easy to replace. I recommend people carry a spare with them if they travel somewhere, even though the newer ones are supposedly improved.
Lots of power in a small package. Reasonably torquey, reasonably frugal. No TDI, but pretty good for a gasser. The 1.8t B5 / slushbox is kinda poochy around town, but once on the highway not too bad.
