Probably not going to happen.

“Wrangler is on the radar to get (a) diesel,” ... for 2015-16.
2-3 years off is enough time for many things to change, and people to forget what he said. Remember that Ford and GM said their 1/2 tons were to get a diesel 2-4 years post announcement? Yeah, 6 years later there is no sign of that ever happening.

“I’m confident that the Grand Cherokee will show just how large a demand there is for diesel"
That was the entire point of selling the Jeep Liberty CRD for 2 years.

There is a poor track record for diesl rumors turning into actual dealership offerings.
Rumors with substance typically originate 2 to 4 years before new diesel is at autoshow then 4 months to over a year before they are for sale.

1998 Passat TDI
Nissan Maxima diesel
Accord/TSX diesel
1/2 ton 4.5L duramax GM pickup
CrossLander diesel
Mahindra pickup diesel
1/2 ton F-150 diesel with Ford developed V8 diesel, before the V8 there was Navistar developed diesel to go into F-150
1/2 ton Ram pickup diesel with Cummins, then Fiat, then finally VM Motori diesel
Mitsubishi announced diesel Lancer for North America around 2009 - 2010
Subaru was expected to offer diesel in North America before they offer hybrid
Ford Focus diesel was tested extensively and tentatively planned for North America
Chrysler 300 was to offer diesel before Mercedes dumped Chrysler and Cerberus purchased them
Isuzu and GM were planning diesel in their joint developed trucks i-series and Colorado/Canyon, this program was canceled before Isuzu disappeared from North America and GM went bankrupt
GTD briefly went into order system for VWoA then disappeared

I'm sure I missed some, until it's at dealerships it does not exist and even after products are announced they sometimes don't make it to showrooms.

For the record, I do expect Wrangler to offer diesel as long as Grand Cherokee and Ram 1/2 ton sell well, and they will. Calendar year 2015 is my prediction for Wrangler diesel.

The Wrangler has had a diesel since 2007-just not in the U.S. They just need to be able to meet emissions here which the new 3.0L will do. The Jeep Patriot has a 2.0 VW diesel in it overseas as well. Why it isn't offered here I don't understand being that motor passes emissions in a VW.

Because we have dumbest useless idiotic light duty diesel emissions rules that which are completely political with no regard to science. The current light duty diesel rules neither give us clean air nor do they allow any of the most fuel efficient ever built vehicles to be sold here.

Today's environment of rigged EPA consumption ratings that over rate hybrids by as much as 30-40 % above real world numbers, while under rating diesels by that same 30-40 % below real world you end up with a win win for big oil and all of those aluminum foil wearing hybrid nuts.

If we did not have these current useless accomplishing nothing when it comes to giving us clean air emissions rules that do not give any clean air because no one has sold a light duty diesel in the US since 1986. No clean air can be gotten from the current over-regulation of light duty diesel emissions on vehicles that make up less than 0.01% of what is on the road today.

If we didn't have these useless emissions rules on diesels that currently are only accomplishing one thing, they are only blocking from sales in the US market the most fuel vehicles ever conceived of or built. Head to head the most fuel efficient diesel sold around the world but not here the current bad joke hybrids on sale here would be a foot note to history because diesel sales would completely destroy the currently unfairly rigged hybrid market in the US.

You want real proof of this fact look at countries that allow diesel sales, diesels make up 60+ % of what is sold and hybrids make up less than 2 %.

A real statistic that shows how rigged the hybrid market is in the US is the fact that Toyota hasn't sold a diesel powered but Toyota diesel sales/production numbers are above 60% of total world wide.

The world wide output of hybrid production is only 6-8 % of total company output. And that 6-8 % hybrid output number is rigged and inflated by governmental sales. The real telling number is the fact that real sales world wide, total hybrid production numbers for sale to the public are only 2-3 % of world wide production. Small displacement gasoline powered models with manual trans are 10 times hybrid production/sales numbers, again Toyota hasn't offered or sold these small displacement models in the US since 1986.

A good selling very fuel efficient model around the world is a 1.0-1.3 L gas powered man trans equipped versions of many models that are sold here. These offerings rival the best of the hybrids in consumption numbers but only cost 1/3rd or less than what hybrids are offered for.

In case you missed it, toyota can't give away to the public hybrid powered models in countries where they have to compete head to head with fuel efficient diesel tech. toyota has lobbied heavily to keep emissions regulations on light duty diesels to be extreme to protect their money loosing hybrid tech.

I have first hand knowledge from a friend that works for Toyota Corp that toyota has never made a dime on it's hybrid tech, production has been purposely kept low to reduce per unit losses in hybrid sales. Toyota has only have ever produced enough units to get the desired advertising effects(to get customers in the showroom to look the hybrid but to buy something else). Only enough unit built to buy CARB good will. And today with the coming increases in CAFE they will only build enough, not one unit more than is required to raise CAFE levels to legal points in coming years.

The thing that terrifies Toyota is if because of rule, law or emissions changes they suddenly were required to offer diesel or low displacement gas/man trans power here hybrid tech sales numbers would completely disappear with them not being able to give away hybrid tech here. Hybrid sales numbers would be forced to be reduced to only being offered in CARB states and only enough to keep the government happy. They are horrified that at some point if we were suddenly faced with a real oil crisis leading to shortages and extreme price hikes in the coming years policy changes could doom hybrid sales in the US, killing them of as a option around the world.

In the event of conditions that would force a change in emissions laws to allow, encourage for the most fuel efficient be sold here this would be the end of hybrid sales. A sudden increases of CAFE that removed the current loopholes that still exist or a combination of a reduction in light duty diesel emissions rules to get a quick jump in real CAFE for national security they would have to start to sell diesel powered models here. the you throw in a few cheap small displacement offings that sip fuel for less than a 1/3rd of the cost of least expensive hybrids, it would be by by hybrids as a option most places around the world.

AS said above Toyota along with every other auto maker has documented around the world the fact that hybrids can't be given away when on the other side of the lot fuel sipping small displacement man trans gassers and powerful fuel sipping diesel powered models are offered......

In short that is why we are not offered a wide range of diesel powered models that are routinely in large numbers sold with diesel power...

There's no Patriot in Europe at the moment. The diesel was an older VW pre-common rail design. The Compass used to have that VW engine too, but now comes with a Mercedes OM651 engine.
