On the way back from my New England vacation i hit the magic 200,000 mile mark...

the New York Thruway!

I was kinda bummed the traffic got dicey as in there was some slow idiot driving below the speed limit and heavy tractor trailer traffic trying to go around him and the other idiots who wanted to go 100 mph... at any rate i saw it at 199,998 and then again noticed at 200,001... i guess its a good sign that i was watching the road more than the odometer...

Now a few days later I'm already at 200,850 or so

I love this car...

Lets hear it from the other 200,000+ folks... KING5? You out there?

Anyone else? who else has hit the 200 mark?

Yall Canadian folks are open too - what is that number what about 320,000?

Talking about A4s - (those B4/A3 have an advantage of being older...)

I've been waiting to hear from someone like you. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2000 Jetta TDI with 116,000 on it. I was concerned about the logevity of the turbo and wondered about any other common problems. How has yours been on it's way to 200?

1999.5 Jetta with 280,301. Should turn 300,000 miles some time around November. Gotta like the 50 miles per gallon.

A big "thumbs up" to you for passing that all important 200K mark, GeWilli! They just get better with age, eh?

I figured that most of you were getting sick of me and my miles!

Yep, still here, but not piling up the miles like I used to. Only up to 234K right now. Still no problems of any kind (well, nothing major anyway). Still love the car.

Stew (with a mere 29k on his TDI)

Well i've gone through a few parts - but looking at original stuff:

OEM Battery - yeah 200,000 miles later and I have the original battery in there - even through these Michigan Winters!

Starter,
Alternator (well the freewheel part was replaced but not the alternator)
Clutch yup original clutch in a chipped car with bigger injectors
first set of brakes lasted 150,000 miles
replaced one front wheel bearing

ah the list goes on - its been good... and it felt nice and smooth this morning...

And my cam still seems to be intact even using Petro Canada Duron XL 0W-30

Congratulations!

I hope to get at least 300K out of my NB TDI.

A note-worthy mention is my old '89 Audi 90 which I sold with 390K miles to college student. That car had the original clutch which remained in it until the car was totaled with 420K miles on it. The leather interior still looked good! I also had an '87 Jetta GLI which I sold with 205K miles.

Most everything on my Golf is original as well. Clutch, battery, wheel bearings, shocks/struts, front brakes with still 50% left on them (the rears were replaced at 112K). In fact, everything but the MAF, timing belts, cam seal, A/C compressor, water pump (original still workd, but replaced it anyway), headlight assys (something broke inside of one of them, so I replaced both), driver's side front seat belt (broken retractor), and windshield are orginal. It's never even had an alignment and the tires wear evenly and last for 80K miles.

No, it's not hanging by a thread. No, it doesn't drive like a 75 Buick with the original shocks and struts. No, it doesn't squeal when I apply the original brakes. I'd replace anything that was necessary, but it just hasn't been necessary.

No, I don't drive like an old lady. I go by the book in both driving and maintaince. The only thing that helps is that 90% of my miles are on the highway.

Most of mine is original except the water pump, MAFs (of course) and windshields (I'm on my 5th windshield)! I also replaced the clutch at 25,000 miles (it was not covered by warranty, but I have to think it was defective as I don't burn out clutches and my replacement one has lasted almost 200,000 miles).

Hi Folks, There is a local SoCA member here that has a stunningly prime white/tan 99.5 A4 Golf GL with 280k+ miles. My friends, if you saw this vehicle, your jaw would hit the floor thinking it had 10K miles. This guy stripped the stock seats to the frame and replaced with GTI Sport leather seats as well as the side seat release mechanism and the wood grain kit for the dash and door handles. Some may remember this one at the last Capo VW GTG. Later!

He lives in Laguna Beach. Most stunning -- and elegant -- TDI I've ever seen. White Golf. A year ago at Capo he nearly had 250K, stock engine.

I just purcahsed my Tdi in November because I was driving approx. 100K/year but then decided to be home more but I still should hit the 40K mile mark this year. Previously I had a 1987 Ford Escort DIESEL, purchased with 113K miles on it and I got rid of it in December just as it passed the infamous 300K mile mark, and that engine was neither turbocharged nor user friendly! Repalced the clutch once and had the brakes done 1 time as well! So I expect to get about 250/350K miles from my 03 Tdi. Maybe I will give it to my daughter when she gets her license in 12 years!

I'm just curious. How do you all acquire such high milage over such a short period of time? I know, I know--driving!!
But what do you do, what kind and type of jobs? Or are you long distance, pleasure type of drivers? Where are you all going?!

Travelling to GTG, TDI Fests, work 2-300 miles a day, trips to home several states away. Driving is nothing to me, you need something, or a family event and I am in the car, travelling this country and mixing it up on the freeways is a freedom I really enjoy. At GTG's you will find many of us in the service industry, computer techs, etc., which will increase mileage on a car. Our professions require us to be mobile, or we comute a longer distance to work.

I used to be a medical courier, with a daily 400-450 mile/day route through Texas and Oklahoma. Used to fill it up with blood and pi** samples (the car, not the tank).

Gewilli: Congrats on your milestone. I'm only at 124,000 km, all I've had to do is the timing belt, water pump, intake cleanse, etc. Just installed Sprint 520's and have had race pipe on since 95,000 km. I'm hoping to have this car for 8-10 years, doing about 40,000 km a year. Just wanted to ask you what size nozzles do you have? I'm concerned about any effects a race pipe and .205's will have on the longevity/cost effectiveness of the car. 95% of my miles are hwy, at about 70-80 mph.

thanks

You need a custom bumper sticker: got pi**?

In pre-TDI days, I bought a 1972 Mercedes 220D new, passed the 100K mark with a total operating/depreciation cost of just 6.5 cents a mile, and sold the car at 370K in about 1998. Only major disadvantage? Without the turbo or the direct injection, it was 30 seconds 0-60 mph, and you had to file a flight plan before attempting to pass anyone on the freeway. But safe and solid as a house, and went exactly where it was pointed.

Now I'm working on a 99 NB TDI at 80K miles, and an 04 Passat TDI at just 3K, so another 200K entry is a ways off.

348,000 miles.

OOP's, that was my '74 superbeetle. Would still be driving it, but a pickup came flying through the air backwards and removed the left front wheel and tweeked the whole car (a great story). Only minor maintenance required....
new exh valves every 50K, new eng every 100K, new tranny every 100K (it lived a very hard life).

My tdi has 23K and I plan on seeing 500K before I'm through with it.....

380,000 kms on an essentially original 2001 Golf TDI. The only parts replaced are the ones associated with the maintenance and the rear brake pads. The car is chipped and boxed, the clutch is still working fine. It looks like I’m not at the halfpoint of the car's life yet. Oh yeah, the fuel pump was replaced under warranty at 30,000kms. I’ve been experimenting quite happily with biodiesel.

BTW, I’m also a medical courier and there’s no better car for me than a turbodiesel hatchback.

Cheers!

Amen to that! These cars were made for duty like this.

Guess that puts me into 3rd place now, behind you and Steam4 and his Jetta.

Sorry I couldn't respond directly any sooner...

Commute - back and forth to work... ~40,000 a year... ~70-75 miles each way.

Cruise control on... chill, listen to Bob and Tom in the morning drinking coffee and i'm at work. Little traffic, rarely enough to cause any change in the Cruise control.

its only about 1.25 hours in the car each way sometimes less rarely more. And no stress - few idiots.

And there are of course the trips to teh DC area, and New England all the time to see family (and friends)...

I have '97 Jetta TDI. Rolled over 231,000 this week. Great
highway car and mileage but I don't think I'll ever get another one. The bucking, stumbling and hesitation that is
prevelant driving around town is pathetic. My car is all original, including clutch, exhaust system and rear brakes.
