Did you ever happen to know who the owner before you was?

A couple of years ago I went to a golf course on PEI, and there was a car that looked exactly like yours, with the A3 wheels on it. I thought it might have belonged to suds, but checked and it was not his. It could have been this car!

I like that boost gauge - was it much to make? I have one 10-element voltage divider but it wouldn't light up all those LEDs. Have to see how you did that.

I did a little detective work so I do know who the original owner was, but I haven't contacted him. He still lives in Toronto at the same address he had when he bought the car new, but it could be the same car you saw on PEI - the wheels are unusual, especially on an A4. Maybe they came off his previous VW - he traded in the 2003 on a 2009 JSW TDI.

I didn't keep exact records, but I think the boost gauge parts cost around $40 (a couple of years ago) - most expensive bit was the pressure sensor at ~$20.

The circuit is fairly simple - I started with Motorola Application Note 1304, used an MPX4250 2.5 bar sensor (the one specified is only 1 bar), and added a second LM3914 display driver chip to get 20 LEDs total. Here's a pic of the electronics.

Turned over 300k on the way to the cottage today.

Most economical and reliable car I've ever owned.
